Elected Republicans to Corporation Commission will Save Arizona
In this past election, Arizonans made the critical decision to elect more republicans back into the Corporation Commission, a decision that will save our state from bad energy policies. The Corporation Commission has been run by radical liberal Sandra Kennedy, who has implemented policies that have caused problems for the state of Arizona’s utility services. She supports California-style energy policies that drive up the cost of energy, decrease reliability, threaten the state’s economic prosperity, and jeopardize public safety. These policies look like prioritizing resource type (solar, wind) over reliability. It also includes prematurely shutting down resources (nuclear, coal and gas) that are necessary to keep the lights on, and neglecting costs (California rates are significantly higher than Arizona’s). Policies like these are what caused California’s brownouts. We do not want the same thing happening in Arizona.
Thankfully, Arizona chose right and elected Republicans Nick Meyers and Kevin Thompson, who will eliminate these radical democratic policies. Nick Meyers and Kevin Thompson will prioritize reliability (not ideology), support Arizona’s economy, and focus on customers (not special interests).
Rather than supporting a California approach to clean energy, Meyers and Thompson will go back to Arizona’s roots by maintaining nuclear power. The Palo Verde nuclear plant is the greatest in the nation. Democrats want to shut it down, destroying jobs and lives of the workers there. The new commissioners will support solar and batteries, but only according to market conditions. All while at the same time keeping costs low by minimizing subsidies and using only the lowest cost resources. Meyers and Thompson support clean energy but are smart enough to know that we need to transition in a sustainable way.
