Senator Kelly’s “Yes” Vote on Prescription Drug Pricing Reform Is a Win for Arizona Seniors

Pharmaceutical companies have made a business out of hiking their prices and exploiting Arizona seniors without any kind of action from Congress. Thankfully, congressional Democrats, including our Senator Mark Kelly, passed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to lower prescription drug prices and provide some financial relief to our seniors.

Under the IRA, Medicare will be allowed for the first time to negotiate the cost of key life-saving drugs, which previously were decided by the drug manufacturers. Over time, the number of drugs Medicare is allowed to negotiate prices for will expand, weakening the iron grip of Big Pharma even further. If Pharma ever tries to arbitrarily hike the cost of drugs again, the IRA has the power to penalize drug companies and check the influence they’ve long exerted over Congress.

Senator Kelly helped deliver on a promise many Arizonans never thought they would see. Thanks to his vote for the IRA, our seniors are finally getting the long overdue protection they deserve. When election day arrives this November, constituents here won’t forget his important vote when they head to the polls.
